Pro-democracy activists have held a rally against the government in front of the Maldivian embassy in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Those gathered there on Tuesday morning called on authorities to implement the Supreme Court’s unanimous ruling on February 1st and to ensure the independence of the judiciary and parliament.
They had also called for the resignation of President Abdulla Yameen, military chief Major-General Ahmed Shiyam, and acting police commissioner Abdulla Nawaz.
The rally began at 10:30 AM, and Sri Lankan authorities had given the permission to continue their demonstration for two hours.
The rally was an initiative of residents in Sri Lanka, those gathered there told the press. The organizers said they hope Maldivian ambassador to Sri Lanka, Mohamed Hussain Shareef will support them as well.
