An officer of the police’s special operations unit, which acts as riot police at the nightly rallies in capital city Malé, have been captured vandalizing public property.

Two clips that appeared on social media show officers, all clad in uniform and riot gear, urinating on to fixtures at a public piece of land.

The clip shows officers at Hinaamaage, which is being developed into a mechanical parking space, in Malé. One officer is seen urinating while others surround him and scan for any possible onlookers.

Another clip is accompanies with comments imposing that officers are tarnishing the integrity of their own institution and that they have turned public property in to ‘washrooms’.

Officers of the special operations unit have been accused of misconduct numerous times, over their behavior while on duty – using derogatory terms against them – and their treatment of protesters.

While the National Integrity Commission has announced that they are investigating such cases, any action against them are yet to taken and publicly announced.
