A boat has sunk near Kaashidhoo while travelling from capital Male’ to Kurendhoo.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said they received report of the boat sinking 2.9 nautical miles from Kaashidhoo on 5:55pm on Thursday.

One Maldivian and three expatriates were on board during the incident.

MNDF cited the boat captain as saying that the vessel had cement and other construction material, and that the crew were unable to pump out the water in time.

The crew were unhurt and rescued by another boat travelling nearby.
