Administrative staff at public schools across the country are donned in black on Thursday as symbol of concern over their pay structure.

They are speaking out against 11 areas of concern that they want immediate amendment to. These include salary increments, the potential to progress within the ranks of the civil service, to be made eligible for risk and public holiday allowances.

They have also expressed concern about disproportionate regulations in place for administrative and academic staff.

As such, while academic staff are entitled to compensations parallel to their qualifications, such a structure does not exist for administrative staff.

They have all explicitly highlighted that their concerns are not political.

We must make a public service commission & and make rules & regulations. We have to make a pay commission which will categorize the jobs & salaries accordingly. Same job means same salary wherever he/she works. I was surprised when I saw risk allowance for school administrative staff. What s the risk? Are they fire fighters or boarder security guards? The whole problem started when suddenly mps increased their own salaries dispropotionately to the average national salaries along with many other benefits. We have to create a body like pay commission who will categorise the jobs, their qualifications for the jobs & fix the salaries.
