The parliament has voted in favour of appointing Ibrahim Uwais to the position of Maldivian ambassador to Japan.

Parliamentarians voted on the matter at the sitting on Wednesday, and Uwais’ nomination went through with votes from 31 of them.

The nomination had gone through committee review as well, and according to the committee’s report Uwais had received unanimous approval.

Parliamentarians aligned with the allied opponents of incumbent President Abdulla Yameen’s administration had again boycotted the sitting.
