Local non-profit Hope for Women has filed a case with the Human Rights Commission against authorities over how Justice Ali Hameed’s wife is being treated in incarceration.

Hope for Women told RaajjeMV on Tuesday that they have received reports of male officers entering the prison cell Fathimath Nasira is being kept in.

The organization said that they understand that these officers routinely enter the cell after midnight and stay there until nearly sunrise.

Hope for Women said they believe that this treatment violates the spirit of the constitution and the precedents set out by anti-torture laws.

Supreme Court Justice Ali Hameed was arrested on 5th February, after the government contentiously declared a state of emergency in the country. His wife, Nasira, and Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed was arrested then as well.
