Police service has said it will be sending the case on the attempted overthrow of the government for prosecution.

Police have also said they are investigating a separate case of them bribing MPs on 24 July 2017 and attempting to use the parliament to overthrow the government.

Spokesperson Shifan said their investigation has revealed that the Supreme Court justices were bribed into issuing the order on February 1 to release nine political prisoners and reinstate 12 opposition MPs.

He said the police service has obtained documentary evidence that a major Maldivian company had paid Supreme Court Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed, Justice Ali Hameed, and Judicial Administrator Hassan Saeed to purchase apartments oversees.

The investigation is being conducted oversees as well, police said, but did not reveal details of their evidence.
