Thimarafushi MP Mohamed Musthafa is now being investigated for alleged terrorism over what he said on RaajjeTV.
Musthafa was questioned by police on Thursday for allegedly encouraging the citizens to come out and remove President Abdulla Yameen and overthrow the government.
He was summoned twice before over the allegations.
Speaking to the press after Thursday’s summons, Musthafa’s lawyer Mahfooz Saeed said the allegations against him have changed to terrorism due to the recommendation of the PG office.
Lawyer Saeed noted that terrorism carries a severe penalty, and questioned the validity of changing the allegations against Musthafa.
He said that, during the questioning, they denied that Musthafa encouraged the overthrow of the government, and also noted that the President isn’t being investigated for making similar comments.
Musthafa claimed that the decision to change the allegations to terrorism came from President Abdulla Yameen.
The broadcast regulator fined RaajjeTV MVR 500,000 over Musthafa’s statement on air.
