MP Faris Maumoon, who has been remanded on criminal allegations, has revealed the possibility of a threat to his life.

At a hearing held on Wednesday over the allegations made against him, Faris said he does not believe his life is secure while in incarceration, and that he does not expect to be given justice through the judicial procedures.

The hearing was held over the bribery allegations that prosecutors had put forth against him.

In addition to allegations of attempting to bribe parliamentarians ahead of a vote against parliament speaker Abdulla Maseeh, prosecutors are also seeking charges against Faris for identity fraud.

On January 27th, the Dhiggaru constituency MP was arrested again, this time over allegations of conspiring to overthrow the government.

The parliamentarian was only released from custody that Thursday evening. Officers had also searched his home and that of his father, opposition leader and former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.

He is now accused of conspiring with other lawmakers to overthrow the government.
