The Criminal Court has cancelled the hearing it held over the state’s obstruction charges against MP Abdulla Riyaz.

The hearing was scheduled 10:00 AM on Tuesday, and Riyaz was only informed of the cancellation as he attended court for the hearing.

The prosecution has put forth charges influencing the official conduct of a public official, under Section 511 of the Penal Code, on 23rd November.

RaajjeMV understands that the parliamentarian is facing allegations under clause two of the section, on ‘communicating with a public official in a manner prohibited by law’.

The prosecution put forth two additional charges against Riyaz, who is also the opposition Jumhooree Party’s deputy leader. One for obstructing the conduct of the police, for which he has been acquitted.
