Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) has said they are still investigating the suspended lawyers, and will allow them to return to practicing law as the probe concludes.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, DJA’s media official Faisal Adam said they will also criminally investigate any lawyer who is accused of contempt of court.
DJA is also taking statements from the suspended lawyers, he said.
The administration suspended 54 lawyers on 10 September 2017 for proposing a petition to reform problems in the legal sector. DJA claimed the lawyers rallied outside the Supreme Court illegally, which compromised the independence of the judiciary and judges.
While some lawyers have since been allowed to practice law, Kendhoo MP Ali Hussain remains suspended, and former Deputy Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem has been allowed to return to law only recently after being suspended for over two years.
43 lawyers have since been allowed to return to law, and 12 remain suspended.
