Students barred from using lifts in new 8-storey Aminiyya School

Principal says classes with special needs kids and primary grade students are on the bottom level
Parent concerned that climbing long flight of stairs will stunt growth of students

Students from Aminiyya School has been barred from using the lifts in the new 8-storey building.

More than 2000 students are enrolled in Aminiyya School for the new academic year, which began on Sunday.

Only teachers are allowed to use the elevators.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, Principal Nazuleen Wafir said classes with special needs kids and primary grade students are on the bottom level.

Responding to whether the higher grade students might find it difficult to climb the stairs, the principal said that they were “big kids”, and that those students had also used the stairs in the old building.

She added that the lifts won’t be able to fit that many students at a time.

A parent told RaajjeMV that they were concerned it would become a burden for students to climb up with their backpacks. The parent added that carrying heavy weight up the 8-storey building could stunt the students’ growth.

think twice
i guess now some parents will feel how Arabiyya school children feel. Arabiyya is also a seven storey n children are banned to use the lifts. there are no class rooms on the ground floor n first floor theres abt 3 classes. Arabiyya children are climbing with their HEAVY back pack. i guess, both schools should allow children to use the lifts. selected parents or volunteered parents can be on lift duty at the beginning of each sessions.... 1 lift for girls n the other for boys... schools can arrange in such a way that its not a burden for students n parents... my opinion. ..
