Former President Mohamed Nasheed has called on authorities to withdraw the military officers standing guard at Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s residence.
Maumoon, the leader of the opposition faction of ruling party PPM, has recently been given additional security at his home in Malé, supposedly in light of a report of a death threat.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Nasheed, the leader of opposition MDP, cited reports that military guard have been 'noting down names of visitors'.
“Soldiers should withdraw and cease such intimidation.”

Some have speculated that the guards are a government ploy to stifle the opposition movement near the presidential election.
