Residents of Ukulhas island in Alifu Alifu Atoll have concluded a successful cleaning project there.

This is the seventh such project held on the island, and the local government council in Ukulhas said that over 1,100 people participated.

Telecommunications provider Dhiraagu was the main sponsor for the event, and as such 20 of its staff had travelled to Ukulhas to take part in it.

The island has been described as an example to the country, and was acknowledged as such through an award in 2014.

Shinaz Moosa, a member of the ‘task force’ put together by the ‘Saafu Ukulhas’ event, said that the islands people, of all ages, had participated in the event and that this serves to increase morale and encourage such events in the future.
