Police confiscate items at opposition’s Friday rally

The police service confiscated items at the opposition’s rally this Friday.

Officers usually take away items at the “tea party” rallies, held every Friday at Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s campaign hall near the Artificial Beach.

This Friday, officers first took the food items, placed outside the hall, inside, and later Special Operations officers took them away. But the items were replaced every time they were confiscated, and so the rally continued.

At the gathering, speakers had criticized the government and the judiciary, and had vowed to remove President Abdulla Yameen, as well as bring the corrupt senior government officials to justice.

No one was arrested at the rally.
