RaajjeMV understands that prior to visiting Kendhoo island in Baa Atoll, all posters put up by the citizens of the island were removed under a court order.

President Yameen arrived in Kendhoo island on Monday. Citizens of the island were armed with posters to protest against President Yameen and his administration.

A court order issued shortly before President Yameen’s arrival, by the island’s Magistrate Court, authorized the confiscation of banners and other such items.
However, the court order did not indicate that posters could be seized under the order.

Police had requested for a court order citing that they had received reports that activities were planned to disrupt public peace. The order authorized Police to remove banners with indecent statements and other such items that impact on public peace. The order was issued based on a secret intelligence report, citing clauses 615 (a) (3) and 615 (a) (6) of the Penal Code.

Some of the protesters reported that no such statements were on the posters. He also refuted that they had created any banners.

RaajjeMV obtained pictures of the said posters, which had called for an end to injustice and questioned on the pledges made by this administration which are yet to be fulfilled.
