Pres Yameen gives advice on choosing presidential candidate
Candidates who make lofty promises should be "crossed out."
Candidates who fail on their "religious background" should also be crossed out
Voters should ponder on whether the candidate has the intellectual capacity and strength to make his pledge a reality

President Abdulla Yameen has advised voters on choosing a candidate for the 2018 presidential election.

During a speech at the inauguration ceremony of the new water supply system in Lh Hinnavaru, President Yameen told the audience that there were three main points to keep in mind before voting in the presidential election, describing them as “shortcuts” to choosing a good leader.

President Yameen said that if a candidate makes lofty promises, such as space travel, while there are still complaints of a lack of sewerage and water supply systems in the islands, they need to be “crossed out” before their names are placed in the voting ballot.

“If President Yameen starts talking about going into outer space or space travel, President Yameen still has mental problems.”

He also said the problem with political leaders who have contributed to the nation is their diverging opinions on various topics.

While they have different opinions on issues, it was crucial for voters to keep in mind their “religious background,” he said, adding that those who fail on their background should be crossed out, if people want to remain steadfast for Islamic values.

The third point to consider is whether the candidate has the intellectual capacity and strength to make his pledge a reality, advised President Yameen.
