Incumbent President Abdulla Yameen’s administration is attempting to erode the demopcratic principles of decentralization and separating powers, Ahmed Mujthaba has said.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, Mujthaba said that those that those who decentralized power in the ecountry had been forcibly removed, referring to the premature end of former President Mohamed Nasheed’s administration.

The governments that came after have actively diminished the work of the Nashed administration, and eroded the principles enshrined in the 2008 constitution.

Mujthaba, who was previously the state minister of Home Affairs, said this while the Local Government Authority on December 11th barred local councils from meeting foreign dignitaries and diplomats without prior permission.

Currently, Mujthaba is the president of the Maldivian Democratic Party’s south-central province.
