President Yameen has denied the allegations, although his time in office has been marred by a number of them

President Abdulla Yameen has never asked his associates or those under him to partake in any acts of corruption or tyranny, his coalition partner Ahmed Siyam has said.

Speaking at an event held at Velidhoo island of Noonu Atoll to inaugurate a new harbour there, he said that the allegations of corruption and graft made against the government is unfounded.

“I swear upon my faith, in the 25 years I have worked with him, President Yameen has never encouraged or partaken in an act of corruption, directly or indirectly” Siyam said.

Siyam, also a prominent businessman whose companies have received government projects, said that the ‘claims’ of corruption are ‘lies spread by the opposition’.

President Yameen has denied the allegations made against him, although his time in office has been marred by them.

The largest corruption case in the history of Maldives found his deputy, Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, in the middle of it.

Records found on Adeeb’s phone even implicates the president himself, as discovered and publicized by an Al Jazeera exposé, which the government officially called a ‘falsified and biased’ report.

State-operated offices and even ministries have been found by audit reports to either have suspicious financial records or none at all.
