Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has expressed concern over the death threats his fellow opposition leader Mohamed Nasheed received.
In a post on his Twitter account, Maumoon said he was ‘deeply concerned’ about the threats and condemned them.
Deeply concerned by news that HE President @MohamedNasheed had to cancel his scheduled meeting with Maldivians in Colombo because of credible reports of a threat to his life. Our reform alliance strongly condemns all such attempts.

Former Foreign Minister Ahmed Naseem, a close associate of Nasheed’s, revealed last Thursday that there have been credible threats on his life.
This has led to the cancelation of a party event scheduled for Saturday, Decemebr 26th, Naseem said. The threats had been identified to be credible.
The Maldives Police Service said that there are not investigating the threats as no cases have been filed yet.
Conventionally, officers investigate such matters – threats against dignitaries and prominent public figures – of their own volition.
