Fishermen’s Day 2017
No valid reason for the fishermen to back this Government: Ahmed Abdullah
Protest staged in island

Former Parliament Member for Ihavandhoo Constituency and Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Chairperson (Financial), Ahmed Abdullah says that the incumbent Government had squandered all opportunities to better the lives of fishermen.

Speaking to RaajjeTV’s live coverage of Saturday evening’s protest in the Ihavandhoo island, Abdullah said that due to this there was no valid reason for fishermen to back this Government.

Abdullah said the Government had prioritized their own agenda rather than that of the public. This, he added, had created an environment that was increasingly difficult for fishermen. Abdullah warned that the Government will have to face the consequences of such actions.

This year’s official function to mark Fishermen’s Day was held in Ihavandhoo island. Most of the fishermen in the island had staged a protest, with the Parliamentary representative for the Constituency Mohamed Abdullah joining in the protest.
