Current court orders are baffling to anyone who checks them: MP Imthiyaz

Maafannu North Constituency MP Imthiyaz Fahmy has criticized the judicial justice system, stating that all the court order issued currently are baffling to anyone who analyzes them.

Speaking in the rally held by the opposition on Thursday night in Vilingili island, MP Imthiyaz said the verdict issued on former President Mohamed Nasheed was viewed as a joke by the international community. He decried that the verdicts issued on former Defense Minister Mohamed Nazim and Maamigili Constituency MP Qasim Ibrahim were also baseless. He also highlighted on the arrest of Galolhu South Constituency MP Ahmed Mahloof’s father. The warrant for his arrest stated that he was being arrested for solicitation and trading without a permit. MP Imthiyaz questioned if making a prayer was now a cash based transaction.

The Parliamentarian also criticized the diktat issued by Local Government Authority banning Councils from meeting foreign diplomats and dignitaries. He described this as ‘confusing’ and ‘deeply troubling’.

He added that there was no element of statehood as the present Government’s actions have made themselves a joke.
