The charges of attempting to solicit a sexual act was made against Mohamed Hassaan, MP Mahloof’s father, by mistake, the police have confirmed.

An official from the Maldives Police Service said that allegations of the ‘Class 3’ misdemeanor was a mistake caused by their databases.

Hassaan was arrested on Friday for leading a prayer against the ‘tyranny’ of incumbent President Abdulla Yameen.

He was charged under Article 613 and 617, which involved the unlicensed conducting of a business and criticizing Islam, respectively.

He was previously charged with Article 615 of the penal code as well, which involve sexual solicitation.
