Former President Mohamed Nasheed has accepted Ali "Step Ayya" Shahid's apology, for once grabbing the former president by the collar.

Shahid is currently a political activist and a former coordinator of the current administration. He was an officer of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) when he grabbed the former President by the collar, back in 2007.

In a tweet posted in Dhivehi on Friday, Shahid apologized for grabbing Nasheed by the collar, adding that the former President had set 'a flame of democracy' in the Maldives. Shahid attached a photo to the tweet, where he is grabbing Nasheed by the collar.

Accepting the apology, former President Nasheed said that he was 'delighted' to hear Shahid's words.

"I do not believe there is anything to gain through hatred, or by holding personal grudges," added Nasheed.

Nasheed was among those arrested as the police was dispersing the number of people gathered near Aa'saharaa, to have a glimpse of Hussain Solah's body, who was found dead in the sea in 2007. Nasheed became the first democratically elected President of the country in 2008.

While Shahid, a Police Constable back then, has apologized to former President Nasheed, the said photo is one that is shared constantly on social media.
