Self-exiled former President Mohamed Nasheed has stated that the opposition "will free" jailed former Defence Minister Colonel (Rtd.) Mohamed Nazim.
In a tweet sent out on Monday, the former president emphasized that it has been over a thousand days since Nazim was "framed" and "jailed unjustly".
"We will release Colonel Nazim," added Nasheed.

Nasheed's tweet comes hours after the former minister's family released a statement, calling the justice system "unjust".
Back in June, former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, sentenced to jail on multiple charges, sent a letter to the Supreme Court claiming that he knew the truth behind those that had "framed" Nazim on the weapons charges, for which he is serving a 11-year jail sentence.
Prior to his tweet, Nasheed's party Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) released a statement, noting that the government "has to take responsibility for the judicial system's failure to find justice for Nazim".
The party further called on authorities to release the former defence minister "immediately".
