Nazim marks 1000 days in jail, family says judicial system is unjust

Not given opportunity to present sufficient defense
SC verdict came when state admitted fingerprint on pistol was ex-VP Adeeb’s

Former Defense Minister Colonel (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim on Monday marked 1000 days to his prison sentence, with his family stating that the judicial justice system was unjust.

In a statement released on the day, the family said investigation and trial into the former Defense Minister showed it was a crime of the highest degree. The statement added there was no evidence tying Nazim to the pistol found in his residence. The family further noted the verdict was not based on any solid evidence, given that neither fingerprints nor DNA evidence in the room tied up with the former Defense Minister.

The statement noted they had appealed to Supreme Court to once again review the case. However, to this date, it said, they had not received a response, which further highlighted the current status of the judicial justice system.

Colonel Nazim’s family further stressed that every day he spends in jail, without a remedy from the system, is a grave injustice against him and his family.

The statement concluded by stating the family had always hoped Maldivians experienced the best of the judicial justice system.
