Documents have been exchanged in the case filed in Civil Court over the MVR 1 million fine imposed on the station by Maldives Broadcasting Commission (MBC) for broadcasting content that allegedly defamed President Abdullah Yameen.

In Sunday’s hearing of the case, both defense and prosecution exchanged case documentation. No date was announced for the next hearing.

The case was sent to trial after having failed Civil Court’s dispute resolution stage.

In the hearing held on October 16^th, RaajjeTV maintained that the MVR 1 million fine was imposed against rules, regulations and procedures. Speaking on behalf of the station, RaajjeTV Chief Operating Officer Hussain Fiyaz Moosa said the Court had plead both sides to seek a resolution to the case through discussion.

However, Fiyaz noted that the state had pressed to go trial from the onset.

Fiyaz said that lawyers from Attorney General’s Office and MBC had attended the hearings.

RaajjeTV was fined by MVR 1 million after paying the fine on May 4^th.

The station’s lawyer Mohamed Nishan said the station had requested to nullify the decision made by MBC and recover the fine to RaajjeTV.

The station was fined by a total of MVR 1.7 million on three separate occasions.
