Suspended council chair Haashim says he will remain steadfast for the people of Dhiddhoo
Haashim chimed in on the Housing Ministry’s controversial list of recipients for its housing units, to say that the ministry’s selection process is ‘notably unfair and biased’

The chair of Dhiddhoo island’s local government council, Ali Haashim, has said that his suspension would not stop him from working to ensure that the island’s residents receive housing units under the state’s shelter program.
Haashim chimed in on the Housing Ministry’s controversial list of recipients for its housing units, to say that the ministry’s selection process is ‘notably unfair and biased’.
His decision to stand against government policies that are unjust is the reason behind his suspension, but he will not be made silent, reassured Haashim.
Haashim said he would have remained silent if Dhiddhoo’s residents received the flats that they are due, however – explicitly according to Haashim – the recipient list was mostly filled with individuals supporting the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives.
Dhiddhoo island of Haa Alifu Atoll received a total of 140 housing units. The list of recipients for these flats were also publicized through individual form numbers, and Haashim’s criticism of this led to a disciplinary action against him.
He was suspended on September 28th.
