The Maldives Police Service has condemned the arson attack on the car assigned to Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham, describing it as a move against the local criminal justice system.

The police said this in a statement on Monday, where they had also announced that they are investigating the matter.

The statement also revealed that a special taskforce has been established to investigate the attack.

Rescue officers quelled the fire at around 03:15 am on Monday after pedestrians on Janavaree Magu in Henvieru ward reported it.

Officers said that the boot of the car and backseats had been damaged beyond use, with the car’s back-end having sustained most of the damage.
