Authorities have confiscated the passport of Galolhu South Constituency Member of Parliament Ahmed Mahloof.

The Parliamentarian is, at the time, in Colombo, Sri Lanka for medical treatment.

The passport was confiscated under a court order issued by Criminal Court on Monday.

MP Mahloof’s passport was first confiscated in early August for a period of one month. The passport was released in September.

Monday’s order said the passport was confiscated for a period of three months and listed him as a flight risk.

MP Mahloof reported that while he was in Sri Lanka, officers had visited his residence in Male’ on Tuesday with the Court order. He added that no questions were posed to him in the first time his passport was confiscated. MP Mahloof said confiscating his passport for a second time was pure intimidation.

He also said that no officer of Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) had given a statement implicating him in the alleged assault on officers of MNDF. The opposition aligned MP said those officers had been coerced into giving false testimony.

MP Mahloof was accused of assaulting MNDF officers tasked with protection of Parliament Speaker Abdullah Maseeh in the Parliament sitting on July 31st.
