The Maldives Motor Racing Association (MMRA) has on Friday started a drag racing competition for both drivers and cyclists.
While the MMRA had held circuit races last year, where multiple vehicles compete for several laps in a closed circuit with turns. Drag racing commonly involves two competitors and one straight, with racers having to rely on start time and quicker upshifts.
The competition’s co-host, B.Bros Motors, said that their safety regulations meet international standards.
They further said that the competition is a means to provide local racers with an outlet for their sport and to encourage potential racers.
Reportedly, the racing track will be available for those that wish to practice after the two-day competition is over.
