Police have arrested four individuals in their investigation into the two deaths in Hulhumalé on Thursday night.

Officers revealed that they’re currently searching a total of four areas in Hulhumalé, an urban extension to the capital city, and that all the arrests were made on Thursday.

Police have apprehended three men and a female, further revealing that they had found ‘party drugs’ near the location where one of the deaths had occurred.

However, officers refused to comment on whether or not the substances were related to the deaths opting to say that they have taken samples from the bodies for testing.

The bodies of the two individuals have been handed over to their families.

21-year-old Ahmed Hanim was brought to the hospital in Hulhumalé along with another young man. Local news outlets report that both men had been victims of water inhalation.

Hanim had reportedly been dead at the time of his arrival at the hospital.

Shortly after, 18-year-old Fathimath Sama was brought in by police officers. Doctors confirmed that she had passed away before her arrival at the hospital as well.
