Chief Justice, SC criticized for suspending lawyers

Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed is to meet all the lawyers who did not sign the petition submitted to the Supreme Court, calling for judicial reform.

Sources reported to RaajjeMV that the meeting will be held in Supreme Court on Monday at 2000hrs.

The meeting comes following intense criticism of the judiciary following the suspension of 54 lawyers both from internal and external parties.

While the Court had reversed the suspension of 13 lawyers, Law Association for Asia and the Pacific (LAWASIA) will send a fact-finding mission to the Maldives, who will scrutinize the Supreme Court decision to suspend 54 lawyers calling for the rule of law to be upheld.
