Former Prosecutor General Muhuthaaz Muhsin, who is serving a 17-year jail sentence, has asked for an injunction to halt disciplinary actions against inmates.
Muhsin asked for the injunction during a hearing over a case against the Maldives Correctional Services – the statutory body overseeing the local prison system.
He had noted that the Correctional Services does not, at present, provide inmates with a copy detailing the disciplinary act and reasons for why it was imposed.
Officers are required to provide full disclosure of the claims made against them and issue a written letter detailing it, under the Prisons Act.
Muhsin’s case against the service claims that officers currently penalize inmates without granting them access to the details of the claims made against them and without providing them with a written copy.
He had also filed another case seeking reparations for a similar disciplinary act that he was subject to.
Muhsin was sentenced to imprisonment for his involvement in an 'unlawful' arrest warrant allowing the arrest of incumbent President Abdulla Yameen.
