Air search launched for missing elderly man

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has on Monday, revealed that an air search has been launched for the missing 60-year-old from Maduvvari island of Meemu atoll.

MNDF’s information officer Ibrahim Azim said that its helicopter was sent out on Monday, to be utilized in the search.

A sea operation was launched on Sunday morning, after the MNDF received a missing person’s report at around 9:30 am. MNDF said that officers from its Central Area were immediately dispatched to Maduvvari Island.

60-year-old Ibrahim was last seen on the beach, at around 7:30 am on Sunday. MNDF also said that his 'mundu' (a garment worn around the waist) was found in the water by a family member, on the west side of the island.
