Donations flowed to RaajjeTV's Rohingya telethon, with the total funds exceeding the MVR 3 million mark
MVR 3 million has been amassed to the Maldives with Rohingya telethon carried out by RaajjeTV.
‘This is a huge achievement. Thank you. Thank you, all citizens,’ RaajjeTV Chief Operating Officer Hussain Fiyaz Moosa said.
Fiyaz said the telethon, which ran from 1442hrs on Sunday to 2030hrs on Monday, was one of the most successful telethons run by a private broadcaster.
‘We amassed over MVR 3 million in 30 hours, we’re satisfied with the figure. We cannot thank citizens enough for the support,’ Fiyaz said.
‘This level of success in such a short period of time for a telethon is unheard of. We faced immense difficulties. But we were able to overcome all issues with the assistance of our staff and well-wishers and the generosity of Maldivians,’ he added.
Several companies, cafés, restaurants, civil society bodies, councils, clubs and citizens donated to the fund.
The telethon, initially set for a 24-hour period was extended to 30 hours. The telethon concluded at 2030hrs on Monday.
