MP Faris Maumoon filed 45 letters with the state to no avail, says lawyers

MP Faris Maumoon’s legal representatives have filed over 45 letters to state institutions, which have yet to respond to any of them.
Lawyer Maumoon Hameed said in a press conference that Faris has been in state custody for fifty days while authorities have yet to adequately provide his legal representatives with the answers they have asked for.
“We have approached the Maldives Police Services, Maldives Correctional Services, Human Rights Commission of the Maldives, Judicial Services Commission, Criminal Court, High Court, Supreme Court, and the parliament” Maumoon said.
He further said that both he and his colleagues had visited said institutions on three separate occasions as well.
“The parliament has over a hundred people in its employment and a budget of millions, but they have yet to answer our inquiry about whether or not MP Faris Maumoon’s case has been accepted by the parliament’s review committees” the lawyer continued.
The parliamentarian’s defence has claimed that Faris’ incarceration is a violation of the Parliamentary Privileges Act and they have filed a case in this regard with the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The Criminal Court has ordered that MP Faris be detained until sentencing in the bribery allegations against him.
