A former bodyguard of former President Mohamed Nasheed has been dismissed from the army.

RaajjeMV understands that the military's Special Protection Group (SPG) officer Ahmed "Magoo" Faiz was dismissed from his job on August 21.

According to sources he was fired "for releasing top secret information". Prior to the dismissal, he was kept at Girifushi island for about two weeks.

It is not clear on which information he had allegedly leaked.

RaajjeMV has learnt that he has since left the country.

While the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has previously denied penalizing any officers over the leaked audio recording of a meeting between the Defence Minister Adam Shareef and the SPG, MP for Galolhu South constituency Ahmed Mahloof has asked them whom they were 'trying to fool'.

The lawmaker had also shared details of Faiz via his official twitter account, highlighting that he was suspended for releasing 'classified information'.

While MNDF has denied the arrest of any officers over the matter, RaajjeMV understands that some of their phones had been confiscated.
