The man arrested in a drug bust in Mahibadhoo island of Alif Dhaal atoll has been remanded.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the arrest was made after they received an intelligence report of drug possession.

Arrested in connection with the case is Mohamed Zunaam Najmy, 24 and native to Hithadhoo district of southernmost Addu City.

The operation was conducted by officers stationed in the island, on September 5.

Officers stopped and searched the suspect near the northern harbor opposite the Mahibadhoo Volleyball Court and found him in possession of 12 empty film cannisters stuffed with suspected narcotics.

The suspected narcotics weighed a total of 378.75 grams.

Upon being presented to the Mahibadhoo Magistrate Court for his remand hearing, the man was remanded for a period of five days.

The case is under further investigation at the Mahibadhoo Police Station.
