Maldives Police Service (MPS) has forwarded cases against 12 Members of Parliament to Prosecutor General (PG) Office.

The charges were raised against the MPs regarding the events of Parliament on July 24th. Several MPs were summoned to Police for questioning over the matter.

RaajjeMV understands that the charges were raised against the following MPs:

· Hinnavaru Constituency MP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih

· Dhihdhoo Constituency MP Abdul Latheef Mohamed

· Thulusdhoo Constituency MP Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim

· Hithadhoo Central Constituency MP Ibrahim Mohamed Didi

· Hithadhoo North Constituency MP Mohamed Aslam

· Kendhoo Constituency MP Ali Hussain

· Henveyru South Constituency MP Mohamed Abdul Kareem

· Maafannu West Constituency MP Mohamed Falaah

· Nolhivaram Constituency MP Hussain Areef

· Maduvvari Constituency MP Mohamed Ameeth

· Vilingili Constituency MP Saud Hussain

· Henveyru North Constituency MP Abdullah Shahid

The MPs have been charged with breaking Police ranks and entering Parliament grounds on July 24th. All the said MPs had been summoned to Police for questioning over the issue.

The MPs maintain that there is no law that bars MPs from being in Parliament grounds and that Police had no standing to do so as well.

Officers of Police and Army had entered Parliament grounds and forcibly removed MPs from the grounds. This is the first time in the nation’s history that an event of this nature had occurred.
