Maldives Police Service Memorial Day
MPS marks Memorial Day
Police flag was flown at half-mast at police stations in Malé and outlying atolls

The day is marked on July 23 every year

Flags of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) nationwide are being flown at half-mast, in commemoration of the Police Memorial Day.

MPS revealed that they honor the fallen heroes of the police institution who bravely sacrificed their lives for justice and peace among the community.

The flags across different regions of the island nation including the capital Malé City as well as outlying atolls, are being flown at half-mast to commemorate the day.

Further, a special prayer was offered on the occasion of the day and a moment of peace was observed to honor the martyred police officers.

The day is marked on July 23 every year, since the decision to commemorate the day was made back in 2012.

The first official ceremony to mark the day was held in 2013, under a Police Memorial Day order issued and implemented on 16 June 2013.

This decision was a significant step towards recognizing the contributions of the police services and the importance of police work at a national level.

July 23 was the day Police Sergeant Adam Haleem fell in line of duty while attempting to arrest an individual fleeing from house arrest, in Kaashidhoo island of Kaafu atoll.
