PG files case against PO, pro-gov’t lawmakers threaten to oust PG, coincidence?
The MP said Majlis would not allow anyone who does not do exactly as the people want, will not be allowed to remain in office
The threats coincided with a time the PG Office has filed a police complaint against the President’s Office
Abbas threatened to do oust the PG just as Hashim was ousted as governor

Lawmakers representing the incumbent administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu have “coincidentally” threatened to oust the Prosecutor General at a time the Information Commissioner’s Office of Maldives (ICOM) has sought an investigation against the President’s Office.

Media outlets across the Maldives on Monday reported that ICOM has filed a complaint at the PG Office, seeking a probe into the President’s Office due to failure in disclosing relevant information.

The PG Office consecutively sought from the Maldives Police Service (MPS) to carry out an investigation into the case.

Speaking at the People’s Majlis sitting on Tuesday, MP for Velidhoo constituency who represents Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), a coalition partner of the incumbent administration, Mohamed Abbas openly threatened the Prosecutor General.

Abbas, however, made the threat while debating on the government's proposal to amend the Criminal Procedure Code.

The pro-government lawmaker asserted that the PG has to fulfil his legal responsibility or else he should “resign” and “go home”.

The parliament went on to threaten to oust the PG, just as the parliament ousted Ali Hashim as Governor of the central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).

According to Abbas, the People’s Majlis would not allow anyone who does not do exactly what the people want him to do, and someone who doesn’t deliver on the people’s wishes, will not be allowed to continue holding their position.

While Abbas's warning is not believed to be linked to the case filed against the President’s Office in any way, it is important to note that it is inevitably coincidental.
