The incumbent administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has yet again made a pledge to dangle hope, this time targeting the community of local artists in the Maldives.
Speaking at the "Unveiling Visions 2024" Maldives contemporary art exhibition that recently wrapped up, the president announced that the government is set to earmark MVR 25 million to support local artists.
Muizzu said that these funds will come from the budget of the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information, and Arts.
Noting that it is subject to specific guidelines, Muizzu expressed his “full” commitment to support the promotion of the talents and work of local artists as per his manifesto.
Shedding light on his administration’s initiatives to create opportunities for local artists to showcase and promote their work, the president assured artists that his administration would support them financially, in a bid to help them develop their talents and skillset even further.
The Muizzu administration has also announced that a dedicated space would be established in Hulhumalé to showcase the talents of artists.
Further noting that his administration would facilitate exhibitions across several different islands, the president stated that his administration would also pave the path for artists to showcase their skills at international forums,
105 artists from more than 200 applications were shortlisted for the Unveiling Visions 2024 exbibition by the Maldivian Artist Community (MAC).
Shortlisted were artists that showcased their talents in several different categories including drawing, painting, mixed media, calligraphy and installation.
Unveiling Visions 2024 proceeded from July 9 – 21 at the National Art Gallery.
The exhibition provided a platform to feature both renowned artists and new talents from the island nation.
This is the seventh consecutive year the exhibition has been hosted.
President Muizzu was conferred a Catalogue by MAC at the event, where Muizzu also autographed a book that visitors had signed, titled 'Unveiling Visions 2024'.
