Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has stated that protesters were arrested in a bid to impede peaceful assembly.

The Party made the statement in a press release issued over the arrest of seven members of the Party. Male’ City Council’s Central Maafannu Constituency Member Azra Moosa, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) National Council members Mohamed Nihad, Zifleen Hassan, Hassan Ahmed and Ali Sham and two others were arrested on Thursday but were released on Friday. They were arrested on grounds of obstruction.

MDP said that Police had requested that they be remanded but had not been able to prove their claims in Court.
