The hearings of the identity theft charges raised against Dhiggaru Constituency MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon for Thursday has been cancelled.

The hearings were scheduled for 10.30 am on Thursday.

Hearings were canceled after prosecution requested for additional time to review the aspects put forward by the defense. The MP was presented to Court prior to cancellation.

Identity theft charges were raised on MP Faris for the alleged illegal use of the logo and flag of ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM). 

Only the preliminary hearings of the case had been conducted so far. Court had decreed that the hearings of the case can proceed.

While identity theft charges had been raised against MP Faris, a separate charge on attempted bribery had been raise as well. He is currently under detention for the duration of the trial.

MP Faris has been accused of attempted bribery of his fellow Parliamentarians in connection to the vote of no confidence on Parliament Speaker Abdullah Maseeh. However, no formal charges had been raised. The case is still under investigation.
