Man arrested for drug peddling, remanded

A man who was arrested in connection with a drug operation, has been remanded.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) arrested a 24-year-old Maldivian man in connection with the case.

He is accused of smuggling drugs into the Maldives, possession of drugs and peddling drugs on a wide scale.

The Criminal Court has remanded him for a period of 10 days.

The drug suspect’s remand will expire on April 20.

According to the court order, three kilograms of drugs were seized in connection with the case.

The suspect is to have claimed that he had arrived to collect the package, on behalf of his brother.

However, the IO of the case has revealed that evidence submitted in the case, shows that it was a planned operation.

The IO also revealed that it was clear from chatlogs linked to the case, that those involved had promised him MVR 10,000, immediately after the plan to collect the package is successful.
