Discussions have been held on the administration’s development vision for Keyodhoo island of Vaavu atoll.
This was done during a meeting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu held with the island’s council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) members on Thursday.
Councilors stressed that a major challenge facing the island community is the lack of an adequate waste management system on the island.
Shedding light on the lack of space at the school as well as council secretariat, councilors touched upon other issues including land shortage, limited port space, housing needs, the need to increase the standard of public healthcare as well as challenges revolving around transportation.
In addition to this, the councilors requested the government to establish a dedicated fishing buoy for reef fishing.
The president was also urged to provide more opportunities for the youth community to invest in the tourism sector.
Listening to these concerns, the president assured the members that his administration would address the issues raised by the council and seek solutions to tackle them, through consultations with relevant authorities.
Members of the president’s Cabinet of Ministers accompanying him on the tour shared latest updates linked to the issues raised, at the meeting.
