President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has been briefed on the most important development needs of island across Vaavu atoll.
This was done during a meeting he held with the island’s council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) members on Wednesday.
During the meeting, councilors shed light on the importance of expediting the completion of ongoing projects across different islands in the atoll.
They went on to propose a long-term plan to reclaim a sixth destination or an island instead of reclaiming land on the currently inhabited islands in the atoll.
Requesting the installation of an operation theatre at the atoll hospital, councilors also requested the administration to develop a picnic island within the atoll.
Further, councilors also touched upon the importance of local councils operating independently from the civil service in order to streamline the recruitment process for new employees.
Noting that establishing resorts within the atoll would not benefit the residents, councilors highlighted that there was no need to develop any more resorts within the atoll.
Listening to these concerns, the president assured the members that his administration would address the issues raised by the council and seek solutions to tackle them, through consultations with relevant authorities.
Members of the president’s Cabinet of Ministers accompanying him on the tour shared latest updates linked to the issues raised, at the meeting.
