President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to implement the development initiatives proposed by council members of Ungoofaaru island of Raa atoll, by the end of 2024.

This was done during a meeting he held with the island’s council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) members on Sunday.

Speaking at the meeting, the president pledged to make every effort to implement development initiatives for the island within the year, as much as the administration is able to.

The meeting saw the councilors shedding light on the significance of a housing project and coastal preservation.

Discussions also revolved around the prompt completion of the construction of eight classrooms and a multipurpose hall in the school as well as the building of 16 additional classrooms.

The council also sought from the government to bring Un'gulu island into their jurisdiction, for economic purposes.

Seeking the commencement of RTL ferry services, the councilors also shared the need for the development of a commercial port.

The president was also briefed on the need to fast-track the establishment of a football field in the island, as well as other socio-economic development needs.

The meeting saw WDC members stressing the need for a handball court and swimming track.

Listening to these concerns, the president assured the members that his administration would address the issues raised by the council and seek solutions to tackle them, through consultations with relevant authorities.
