Council members of Finey island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll have urged the government to initiate a harbor development project in the island, within the year.
This was done during a meeting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu held with the island’s council and the Women's Development Committee (WDC) on Monday.
The meeting saw councilors sharing the island community’s development needs and concerns with the president including space constraints at the school, the urgency to initiate a harbor development project as well as the need to upgrade the island's mosque.
Discussions also revolved around the need to build sports facilities for the youth community, efforts to enhance social efforts and promote the growth of the tourism and fisheries sectors.
Speaking at the meeting, the island’s WDC members expressed the need to develop a dedicated beach area for aquatic exercises.
Listening to these concerns, the president assured them that he would seek ways to tackle the issues raised, through consultations with relevant authorities.
Members of the president’s Cabinet of Ministers in attendance shared updates on the projects linked to the issues raised at the meeting.
